Maru is the owner-operator of Ikanomics. Raised on Matakana Island, Tauranga Moana, he brings a unique perspective to iwi Māori commercial fisheries that is forward-thinking yet practical and refreshing.

Maru has considerable experience as a director of iwi fisheries AHCs, holds directorships on numerous iwi Māori fisheries entities, is a director of Te Ohu Kaimoana (National Māori Fisheries Trust), the establishment CEO of Iwi Collective Partnership, current Chair of Nga Tapuwae a Maui Iwi Deepwater Collective of 41 Iwi, and co-chaired development of the current NZ Seafood Sector Adaptation Strategy to climate change.
